About dave Reddin

Dave Reddin MBE

For the past 30 years, Dave Reddin has been a driving force behind many of our nation’s greatest sporting achievements, but you’ve probably never heard of him.

Dave has worked deep inside some of the greatest teams in UK sporting history and brings a unique insight into the people, strategies, and success factors which have contributed to the extraordinary transformations of the England Rugby Team, Team GB and the England football team.

England rugby

Rugby World Cup Winner. From 1998 to 2003, Dave was a core member of Sir Clive Woodward's senior management team and led a transformational change in the preparation of England's Rugby players.

Working with players like Martin Johnson, Jonny Wilkinson, Lawrence Dallaglio, Matt Dawson, Jason Leonard and Will Greenwood, he created a new standard for international rugby preparation which resulted in the team being unbeaten for 4 years, winning a Grand Slam and a World Cup in 2003 after extra time with the oldest team in the tournament. He was honoured with an MBE in 2004.

Team GB
Teams GB

Record Breaking Home Olympics. As Head of Performance for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Dave re-imagined standards of games time athlete support

39 sports, 542 athletes, 1500 staff and the pressure of delivering at a home Olympic games. Working in a complex multi-stakeholder environment, he led the development of an unprecedented portfolio of support which helped to power Team GB to a record medal haul.

England Football

Transforming England Football. Dave played a pivotal role in driving widespread change in a sport stuck in dogma and insular thinking, creating the most successful period in England Football history.

Dave was a key architect of the transformation of England teams over a 6 year period driving the development of a radically progressive new strategy of "What It Takes to Win", utilising many lessons learnt from other sports and businesses. This work led to the most consistently successful period in England football history across its 24 national teams including World Cup wins at u20 and u17 level, European championship wins at u19 and a World Cup semi-final for men's and women's senior teams.

Dave worked alongside Gareth Southgate and inside the senior England Team throughout this period, leading all of the planning for the 2018 World Cup, England’s best finish for 26 years.

Starting with chairman Greg Dykes call to action, Dave charts the many challenges, brave decisions and inspirational moments of this journey.

From convincing the FA board to invest, to implementing radical change, from Roy Hodgson through Sam Allarydyce to Gareth Southgate. Dave Reddin played a unique and powerful role in this story and brings you a unique perspective from inside the team to understand the people, the culture and the strategy for success.

Distilling these incredible experiences into the essential ingredients of High Performance teams Dave talks in highly relatable and practical terms about how to super-charge strategy, why brilliant basics beat marginal gains, the power of diversity and how culture is an unrecognised competitive advantage.

Developing High Performance Cultures

Culture eats strategy for breakfast, but how do you develop a strategy for culture? Using the backdrop of cultural challenge and change in some of the world's top sports teams, Dave takes the audience through a journey into developing purposeful cultures for performance.

From understanding purpose and values to the development of deep personal and organisational identity, Dave gives practical examples of how to make high performance culture a competitive advantage. Brought to life with emotive stories and powerful video and imagery, this session gives audiences the tools to take charge of their own culture.

What it Takes to Win : The Strategy of High Performance

In high performance sport, the media loves to focus on the leader or the star athlete as the alchemist responsible for winning through the intangible magic of their talent. In this session, Dave lifts the lid on how the best teams really prepare to win.

Through ruthlessly focused strategy, to the mindset of thinking differently and on to the development of a unique operational DNA to sustain performance, Dave brings a huge diversity of practical examples examples to life including how small team strategy and mentality won the Rugby World Cup in 2003, and how the development of a unique What It Takes to Win model at the Football Association has powered the performance of England Football teams in the past decade.

testimonials

Gareth Southgate,
England Football Manager
“You’ve challenged my thinking in many areas and helped my development as well as that of the senior team and wider organisation to huge returns. You've given me another insight into what excellence needs to look like and I’m grateful for the challenge and support.”
“..... you gave us the best ideas, the focus to succeed and that unwavering ability to challenge current thinking and “why”. You were certainly what the sport and the FA needed and you shouldn’t under-estimate your contribution to probably the most successful period of FA history, I certainly don't.”
Dan Ashworth,
FA Technical Director 2013-2019
“Unanimously, people really enjoyed your session. People got a clear sense that this wasn’t just a standard presentation that a presenter uses wherever they go, but a well thought through and adapted piece for the audience. Thanks for creating a piece exactly on brief – people took loads from it and we had nothing but positive feedback after the event.”
Phil Wilding,
Head of Development and Leadership,
West Midlands Police
“A very quick (MASSIVE) ‘thank you’ from us. It was a brilliant session, which we’ve already received positive feedback about. Literally couldn’t have asked for better!”
Adam Wilson,
Head of Leadership & Management Development, Shoosmiths
"In 2003, the England Rugby team won the Rugby World Cup after dominating the international scene for 4 years. Dave Reddin was one of my first appointments as our fitness coach and played an absolutely pivotal role in creating our success both on and off the pitch as we became the fittest and most powerful team in World Rugby. Since then, Dave has gone on to drive transformation in British Olympic sport and with England football teams.

Success leaves fingerprints, and Dave’s fingerprints are all over the success of some of the biggest achievements in British sport. He is one of the best I have ever worked with.”
Sir Clive Woodward
Andrew Harrison,
Managing Director WHSmith

"The fact that the principles were applied in a sporting context made the outcomes all the more visible but the approach is so transferable to any business or team.  The way that Dave brought it all to life meant that we all took something away from it personally, including the non-sports fans amongst us, and more importantly in the way we work and show up as a leadership team!”
